Jharkhand Congress President Slams Assam CM’s Remarks on Infiltration Crisis
National Desk, 24th June: Jharkhand Congress President Rajesh Thakur has criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his recent remarks regarding the infiltration crisis affecting Adivasi communities in Jharkhand. Thakur accused Sarma of making politically motivated statements without confronting Union Minister Amit Shah, who oversees border security responsibilities.
Thakur took a dig at Sarma, suggesting that he should be mindful that Amit Shah, as Union Minister, holds responsibility for border security and oversees the Border Security Forces (BSF). He emphasized that statements on sensitive issues like infiltration should not be used for political gain or polarization.
Earlier, during his visit to Jharkhand on June 23, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had criticized the alleged exploitation of local lands by infiltrators, particularly Bangladeshi-Rohingyas. He raised concerns about the tactic of marrying Adivasi women to illegally acquire their lands, challenging the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) to take concrete steps against such practices.
“In Pakur, even military personnel have expressed shock at the scale of infiltration. This is not about non-Adivasis seeking land; it is about illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh and Rohingya who are hollowing out our communities,” Sarma had asserted.
The exchange highlights the ongoing tensions and differing perspectives on issues of land rights, security, and indigenous community protection between the leaders of Assam and Jharkhand.
