Jharkhand crisis: CM Hemant Soren meets Congress in charge Avinash Pande

Guwahati: Amid the political turmoil in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren met with state Congress in-charge Avinash Pande on Sunday.

A one-hour discussion was conducted at the state guest house to discuss the next plan of action.

Soren was asked afterwards about the delay in the Governor’s decision over the post of the Chief Minister, to which he replied that the Governor, Ramesh Bais can answer that better.

The meeting occurred between the chief minister and Congress state incharge Avinash Pande, according to Jharkhand Congress president Rajesh Thakur. The information they discussed should not be made public. However, they did talk about the political climate in the state and the general air of uncertainty.

The Congress Legislative Party previously met on Saturday night to discuss the strategy and next steps.

Congress leader and health minister Banna Gupta claimed on Saturday that a plot was afoot to topple the state’s government.

“A plot was hatched to topple our state government. Elected governments are being overthrown nationwide. It is now accepted as normal. At the conclusion of the meeting, he stated that Congress was adamantly opposed to it and that there was no government crisis.

Jharkhand Congress in-charge Avinash Pande presided over the meeting after arriving in Ranchi on Saturday.

A total of 30 Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLAs, 18 Congress MLAs, and one Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA are part of the ruling coalition.

On Saturday, Chief Minister Hemant Soren convened a meeting of the Jharkhand UPA coalition’s members amid rumours that he would lose his status as an MLA in the state house for allegedly breaking election rules by giving himself a mining lease.

Several MLAs were observed arriving for the meeting with luggage in tow. It was the third such meeting in two days.

Meanwhile, Soren took to Twitter to say that he hailed from a tribal community and the current slugfest did not faze him.

On Friday, members of the ruling coalition pledged their support for Soren, with Gupta stating that the JMM-Congress partnership is “standing strong.”

It should be mentioned that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has requested that Soren be disqualified from serving as an MLA because to allegations that he gave himself a mining lease in 2021 while serving as the minister of mines.

In February, the BJP wrote a brief to the governor requesting that Soren be removed from the house for violating Section 9(A) of the Representation of Peoples Act.

The Election Commission of India received a complaint from the BJP that the Governor sent to it, and in May, the election body sent a notice to the JMM leader.
