Guwahati: Three MLAs tendered their resignations in front of Meghalaya Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on November 28, just months before the assembly election.

Notably, two National People’s Party (NPP) MLAs – Benedic R Marak of Raksamgre Constituency, Ferlin A Sangma of Selsella Constituency and one All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) MLA- Himalaya M Shangpliang of Mawsynram Constituency tendered their resignation.

The three will run on the BJP ticket in the next 2023 election.

It should be noted that Dr. Mukul Sangma and Himalaya M. Shangpliang recently defected from the Congress to the AITC.

On the other side, the BJP gained more than 370 leaders and supporters in the 17 north Shillong Constituency earlier this month, and as a result, the NPP now has a significant advantage going into the forthcoming General Assembly Election 2023.

Ransom Sutnga, the NPP candidate for the 17th North Shillong, Lamphang Kharmujai, the NPP President of Shillong City, and other party officials welcomed the leaders on Saturday, November 5, in the afternoon at Dorbar Hall in Lawmali. Among the leaders was the President of the BJP North Shillong, Alwyn Lyngdoh.

Alwyn Lyngdoh explained the reason for his resignation to reporters by claiming that there is no consensus within the BJP in the North Shillong Constituency.

Lyngdoh said that he along with the 370 others does not favour any of the two BJP aspirants – MH Kharkrang and M Kharsyntiew. He and the other members decided to leave the BJP and join the NPP because they had no other choice.
