Joram-Koloriang Highway Connectivity Partially Restored After Rockfall
Traffic along the vital Joram-Koloriang highway (NH-713) in Arunachal Pradesh has seen partial resumption after a significant rockfall incident had earlier severed the crucial link between the Kra Daadi and Kurung Kumey districts. The disruption occurred in the vicinity of Meer and Guhatarak, a region notorious for its susceptibility to rocky landslides.
Swift action by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) ensured a relatively quick clearing of the obstruction. Deploying heavy machinery such as JCBs, NHIDCL teams worked diligently to remove the fallen rocks and debris from the roadway.
The Deputy Commissioner of Kurung Kumey district, Vishakha Yadav, an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), officially confirmed the partial restoration of traffic. She clarified that the affected portion of the highway lies on the border between the two districts. Furthermore, she acknowledged the prompt response of NHIDCL, the agency responsible for executing Package-5 of the ongoing highway project, in their efforts to re-establish connectivity.
With the clearance work completed, vehicular movement to Koloriang and from key areas like Itanagar and Palin has now recommenced, albeit with certain limitations still in place. Recognizing the vulnerability of this particular stretch of the highway, DC Yadav has issued directives to the concerned highway authorities, urging them to implement proactive measures aimed at preventing similar disruptions in the future.
