JP Nadda to Visit Tripura on August 28

Guwahati: BJP National President JP Nadda will make a two-day trip to Tripura on August 28.

Nadda’s visit takes significance as the party prepares for two consecutive elections that are scheduled to take place back-to-back in a short period of time.

The polling timetable for the VC elections will be announced shortly after Durga Puja, and immediately after that, the assembly elections’ formal countdown will begin. According to sources, he would address a public gathering in Khumulwng during his visit and officially sound the poll trumpet for the elections for the village committee.

His public meeting is tactical in that the state BJP is finally preparing such a sizable rally at Khumulwng rather than Agartala.

The BJP wants to convey that it is equally important in regional politics as well, and that it would not capitulate to pressure tactics used by regional parties, as it did before the 2018 assembly elections, according to a party leader.

Nadda is expected to address many organisational issues during his two-day visit to the North-eastern state in addition to the rally.

According to sources, “Now is the time for Nadda to make official statements on the reshuffles. Party National General Secretary BL Santosh delivered his report to the party top brass regarding the organisational structuring. Since he is physically travelling, he will also preside over a few sessions to obtain a sense of the state’s current situation.

Some party leaders believe his visit will revitalise the organisation on many levels and serve as a catalyst for the party’s overall organisational structure.
