Kamle’s Infrastructure Push Gains Momentum as MLA Rotom Tebin Courts Central Government and NHPC

In a significant stride towards fast-tracking developmental projects in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kamle district, Raga MLA Rotom Tebin undertook a series of crucial meetings in the national capital, engaging directly with senior officials from the Ministry of Power and NHPC Ltd. The concerted effort, which took place on a recent Friday, signals a renewed impetus to accelerate key hydroelectric and infrastructure initiatives that are poised to transform the region’s socio-economic landscape.

The heart of Tebin’s discussions with Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Power, revolved around the proposed Dollungmukh–Tamen Road (DTR). The MLA underscored the strategic importance of this road, framing it as the cornerstone for the successful execution of the 1720 MW Kamala Hydroelectric Project. He elaborated on the road’s potential to create a critical link, connecting National Highway-15 at Annando in Assam to NH-13 at Tamen in Kamle. This new artery, Tebin argued, would not only streamline logistical operations for the project but also significantly reduce travel time and costs for the entire region. Terming the DTR as “the backbone” for Kamle’s infrastructure future, he passionately appealed to the Union Secretary for its immediate clearance and approval.

Subsequently, the MLA delved into a detailed review of both the Kamala and Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Projects with S. Balasubramanian, the Private Secretary in the Ministry of Power. The conversation focused on a comprehensive assessment of the projects’ current status, including an honest look at existing roadblocks and realistic timelines for their completion. This rigorous review highlights the commitment to addressing challenges proactively to ensure the projects stay on track.

Later, at the NHPC headquarters in Faridabad, Tebin’s dialogue continued with Director (Personnel) Uttam Lal and Director (Projects) S. Singh. While reviewing the progress of the hydro projects, he also brought to the fore the critical issue of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The MLA urged NHPC to enhance its CSR initiatives, ensuring that the benefits are not just a formality but create a tangible, positive impact on the lives of local communities who are the direct stakeholders in these ventures. Tebin made it a point to highlight the immense local support for the Kamala project, asserting that there is no opposition from the affected villagers. He stated that the people are “eagerly awaiting” the project, viewing it as a catalyst for economic upliftment and a source of employment opportunities for the youth of Kamle.

The MLA concluded his appeal by calling for a sense of urgency, imploring NHPC to expedite the groundwork and commence construction as soon as possible. The successful implementation of the Kamala and Subansiri hydro projects is widely seen as a game-changer for Arunachal Pradesh, with the potential to significantly bolster the state’s power generation capacity and drive long-term, sustainable development across the region.
