Kamrup (M) dist admin issues stern guidelines for puja committees in Guwahati

Guwahati: The Kamrup Metro district administration has issued a list of “dos and don’ts” for Durga puja committees to avoid untoward incident.

The district administration and the Guwahati Police announced the new guidelines in a meeting on Monday.

Each Puja committee must obtain authorization from the local police to organise the Pujas.

The Puja committees have been requested to refrain from setting up pandals outside. All Puja pandals must have CCTVs installed legally. Additionally, each Puja committee needs its own volunteers.

The committees have also been advised by the administration not to utilise excessive amounts of lightning within the pandals. It is necessary to provide adequate lighting all around the pandals.

The banner must have the names and phone numbers of the President and Secretary of the Puja committees.

The Durga idols must be made from materials that are fully pollution-free. Moreover, the administration has directed committees to submerge Goddess Durga idols during the day.

All cultural events must wrap up before 9:00 p.m. The committees were also urged not to use loud music by the government.

The administration also stated that talks on the electrical issue will be made with the Asaam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

Every Puja committee must make fire extinguishers available as a safety and preventative measure. Additionally, the committees are required to provide first aid services in case of an emergency.

Dustbins must be provided in order to maintain cleanliness surrounding the Puja pandals. All people need to have access to clean drinking water thus that must be a top concern for the committees.
