Kamrup Metro Administration Orders Immediate Action on Open Wires
Guwahati: The Kamrup Metro district administration has issued a strict directive to address the hazardous issue of open and hanging wires on street poles, emphasizing public safety concerns.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kankan Sharma, ACS, invoked Section 152(1) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, highlighting that exposed and unorganized wires pose a serious risk to pedestrians and obstruct public movement.
Authorities have been ordered to manage, secure, and properly dress all open wires within seven days to mitigate potential hazards. Failure to comply will lead to penalties under Section 223 of BNSS, 2023, and could result in an absolute enforcement order under Section 155.
Additionally, if responsible agencies fail to act, the pole-owning authorities will be directed to remove the nuisance at the cost of cable owners, including the cutting and seizing of undressed cables. Continued non-compliance may trigger enforcement actions under Section 160, allowing law enforcement to intervene and impose further penalties.
Stakeholders who wish to raise objections or present valid reasons for non-compliance have been asked to appear before the SDM on February 14, 2025, at 4 PM, at Room No. 8, 2nd Floor, Office of the District Commissioner, Kamrup Metro.
