Kanhaiya Kumar joins Congress

Guwahati: Former president of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Kanhaiya Kumar joined the Indian National Congress on Tuesday.

Kanhaiya was inducted into the Congress in presence of Rahul Gandhi at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi.

Addressing the media, Kanhaiya said that Congress is “not just a party, it’s an idea”.

He added that Congress is the oldest and “most democratic” party in the country.

He further added that not only he but many in the country think that India cannot survive without congress.

The Dalit leader from Gujarat, Jignesh Mevani also extended his support to the party.

Mevani at the event said that he could not join the party due to some technical reasons. As he is an independent MLA so if he joins the party, he may not be able to continue as an MLA.

He further added that he is a part of the ideologically and will fight the upcoming Gujrat polls from the Congress party.
