Karim Uddin Barbhuiya: Six Congress MLAs Will Join AIUDF Soon
Guwahati: The All-India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has asserted that at least six Congress MLAs from Assam will join the party in response to assertions from the BJP’s state chairman that opposition candidates may soon join them.
According to ANI, AIUDF MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya has informed the party that at least six Assam-based Congress legislators are interested in joining.
He said, “I indicated that few Congress MLAs will share the dais with us and that we would be together six months ago. Three to two Congress MLAs are present right now. They also spoke with Badruddin Ajmal, the leader of our party. We are waiting because we do not want a by-election. We are in contact with at least six Congress MLAs.”
Barbhuiya also urged other Congress MLAs who were thinking about joining the BJP to change their minds.
“BJP’s decline has begun in Bihar, and it will be over in the next five to six years. Therefore, I ask the other Congress MLAs to forgo visiting the BJP. Since its inception, we have been against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The Assam Accord has our support as well. Don’t join the BJP for the benefit of Assam as a whole; instead, consider your community and your state and join the AIUDF, he said.
The AIUDF MLA stated that numerous other politicians, besides Congress MLAs, will also join the party shortly.
According to him, the state-level general secretary and several Congress leaders, including the district president of Barpeta, will join the AIUDF in Barpeta on September 2.
It should be noted that Assam BJP president Bhabesh Kalita recently asserted that certain opposition legislators may switch to the BJP and that opposition parties and lawmakers approved of the initiatives done by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to advance Assam.
Opposition legislators are pleased and glad with the developmental initiatives being undertaken in the state under the direction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, he had stated.
