Karnataka: 187 Coins Removed From Man’s Stomach

Guwahati: Doctors recovered 187 coins when doing surgery on a patient experiencing vomiting and stomach pain.

Doctors at Bagalkot’s Hanagal Shree Kumareshwar Hospital and Research Center claim to have found 187 coins in the stomach of a patient who had been hospitalised after complaining of nausea and abdominal pain.

“He had been suckling coins for the past two to three months and was dealing with a mental illness. He went to the hospital and complained of nausea and abdominal pain,” said Dr Eshwar Kalaburgi, one of the doctors who performed the surgery.

His family took him to Hangal Sri Kumareshwar Hospital when he complained of stomach pain. The guy had ingested a total of 187 coins, the doctor claimed, adding that the medicos had done an endoscopy and taken his X-ray. 51 Rs 2, 56 Rs 5, and 80 Rs 1 coins are among the total.

Over the course of two to three months, Harijan had ingested coins of various values totaling 1.5 kilogrammes, according to the physician.

The man identified as Dyamappa Harijan is a resident of Lingsugur town in Raichur district. One of the medical professionals treating the patient, who asked to remain anonymous, stated that the patient had schizophrenia, a mental disorder.

“The stomach was dilated enormously and lots of coins were stuck in different places of the stomach. After two hours of surgery, we retrieved all the coins. Following the operation, he was treated for water deficiency and other minor issues. The patient is stable and is talking as of now,” Dr Kalaburgi said.

As he was suffering from schizophrenia, in this condition, the patients are unaware of what they are doing. These are rare cases. It’s a first-of-a-kind case for me in my 40 years of service,” Dr Kalaburgi added.
