Kash Patel Becomes First Indian-American FBI Director, Takes Oath on Bhagavad Gita
International: Indian-American Kash Patel officially assumed office as the ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Friday, marking a historic milestone in U.S. law enforcement.
Patel’s appointment was further distinguished by his swearing-in on the Bhagavad Gita, a symbolic gesture reflecting his cultural heritage.
The ceremony took place at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi administered the oath. Patel’s girlfriend and family members stood by his side, with other relatives seated in the front row, witnessing the momentous occasion. His confirmation by the U.S. Senate paved the way for him to succeed Christopher Wray as the head of the agency, Fox News reported.
Following his oath, Patel addressed the gathering, highlighting his journey as a first-generation Indian-American. He described his appointment as a testament to the American dream, underscoring the opportunities the country provides. “Anyone who thinks the American dream is dead, look right here. You are talking to a first-generation Indian who is about to lead the law enforcement agency of the greatest nation on earth. That can’t happen anywhere else,” he stated.
Patel also reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring accountability within the FBI, emphasizing transparency and integrity as key priorities under his leadership. His tenure is expected to bring renewed focus on law enforcement reforms while upholding the agency’s commitment to justice and national security.
