Kaziranga National Park: Visitors can now feed elephants
Guwahati: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) has created the first-of-its-kind elephant feeding centres at Mihimukh of Kaziranga in Assam.
The ‘Elephant Camp’ feeding centre was launched by MK Yadava, Assam’s Chief Wildlife Warden.
The feeding centre will operate from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.
Tourists can pay a little charge to feed the elephants from a close distance for a small fee. The vet and mahaut will be on hand to keep an eye on the feeding.
This endeavour was done in order to foster a relationship between tourists and animals by teaching tourists about their behaviour. This programme will also aid in the recruitment of additional tourists.
P Sivakumar, Director of KNTPR, said “Altogether 15 elephants can be fed in one go. All our domestic elephants belong to Kaziranga and the government pays for the daily ration.”
