Khilli Ram Meena Appointed as New Chief Secretary of Mizoram
Aizawl: In a significant development, Khilli Ram Meena, a 1993-batch IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre, has taken over as the new Chief Secretary of Mizoram. Meena’s appointment comes after the retirement of Renu Sharma, who served as the Chief Secretary until October 31, 2024 .
Prior to his appointment, Meena served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs before being repatriated to his parent cadre. Born on December 4, 1967, in Rajasthan, Meena cracked the UPSC exam at 25 and has since held various key positions across sectors like energy, education, water resources, rural development, minority affairs, and labor administration.
Following Sharma’s retirement, the Mizoram government had appointed H. Lalengmawia, Commissioner and Secretary in the Higher and Technical Education, and Fisheries Departments, as the interim Chief Secretary.
Interestingly, the Mizoram government had initially requested the Centre to appoint Vumlunmang Vualnam, a 1992-batch IAS officer from the Manipur cadre, as Sharma’s successor . However, the Centre ultimately decided to appoint Meena to the top post.
