KHNAM Demands End to Personal Interviews for Government Jobs in Meghalaya
Northeast, August 19 – The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) staged a one-day sit-in demonstration at Malki ground today, calling for the abolition of personal interviews in government job recruitments. The protest aimed to address concerns about nepotism and favoritism in the hiring process.
KHNAM Working President Thomas Passah, addressing reporters at the event, emphasized the need for greater transparency in government job recruitment. “We are demanding the state government abolish personal interviews for Group B, C, and D posts to prevent nepotism and favoritism,” Passah stated.
He noted that since 2016, the central government and 23 states have eliminated personal interviews for these positions to promote merit-based recruitment. Passah argued that removing interviews would foster fair competition among job seekers, who currently feel that connections, rather than qualifications, influence their chances of securing government roles.
Passah criticized the reliance on influential connections in the hiring process, which he described as unfortunate and detrimental to meritocracy. He urged the state government to consider KHNAM’s demand, stressing that ending personal interviews would greatly benefit the people of Meghalaya.
The protest underscores growing public frustration with perceived injustices in the government hiring process, reflecting a broader demand for more transparent and equitable recruitment practices.
