King Charles III to be Crowned on May 6, 2023
Guwahati: King Charles III will be crowned on May 6, 2023, according to a tweet from British Royal Family.
According to Buckingham Palace, the coronation will be hosted at Westminster Abbey.
Taking to Twitter, the British Royal Family wrote, “The Coronation of His Majesty the King will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey. The Ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside The Queen Consort”.
King Charles III, son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, acceded to the throne after the queen passed away on September 8.
Since William the Conqueror’s coronation in 1066, monarchs of England, and later of Britain and the United Kingdom, have been crowned at Westminster Abbey. According to Reuters, Charles will be the oldest monarch ever to be crowned. He is the 41st monarch in a line that can be traced back to William.
The King and Camilla, the Queen Consort, will both be crowned.
The coronation will reflect the monarchs’ role today and look towards the future while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry, the palace said.
During the coronation ceremony, the sovereign is anointed, blessed and consecrated by the Archbishop of Canterbury. After receiving the orb and sceptres, the Archbishop places St Edward’s Crown on the Sovereign’s head.
