Kiren Rijiju Accuses Congress of Undermining Constitution in Lok Sabha Speech

New Delhi – Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju launched a blistering critique of the Congress during a Lok Sabha discussion commemorating the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. Rijiju accused the Congress of altering the Constitution’s core values and questioned its commitment to safeguarding the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Constitution.

In a fiery address, Rijiju alleged that the Congress had undermined the Constitution by making changes to its preamble and fundamental principles. “You have attacked the Constitution, you have changed the preamble. You have altered the very soul of the Constitution. Then how can you blame others?” he asked, challenging the opposition’s stance on constitutional integrity.

The minister also tackled opposition claims about minority safety in India, emphasizing the country’s history as a refuge for oppressed minorities from neighboring nations. “Look at Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Tibet, or Myanmar. Be it Sikhs, Hindus, or Christians, when minorities face oppression, they seek protection in India. So why question minority safety here?” Rijiju argued, positioning India as a beacon of hope for persecuted communities.

Turning his attention to the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Rijiju accused the Congress of neglecting to honor him adequately. He pointed out that Ambedkar was not conferred the Bharat Ratna during Congress rule. “You frequently mention Baba Saheb, but you didn’t confer the Bharat Ratna on him. After 1956, Nehru Ji received the Bharat Ratna, and later, Indira Gandhi awarded it to herself. It was only under VP Singh’s government, supported by the BJP, that Baba Saheb was given this honor,” he remarked.

The minister’s speech drew sharp reactions from opposition benches, intensifying the ongoing debate over the Congress party’s historical role in shaping and preserving India’s democratic framework. The discussion also highlighted broader ideological clashes between the ruling and opposition parties over the interpretation and legacy of the Indian Constitution.

As the Lok Sabha session concluded, Rijiju’s remarks underscored the BJP’s focus on presenting itself as the true custodian of constitutional values while holding the Congress accountable for past decisions.
