Kiren Rijiju Announces All-Party Meeting Ahead of Winter Parliament Session, Focus on Key Bills

National: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that an all-party meeting will be held on November 24 at 11 a.m. in the Parliament House Annexe, ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament.

The meeting aims to facilitate discussions and consensus on key legislative matters slated for the session.

The Winter Session will commence on November 25 and continue until December 20. Announcing the schedule on his official X account, Rijiju stated that the session will coincide with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution on November 26, observed as Constitution Day. The milestone will be marked with an event in the Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan.

The government is expected to push for significant legislative measures during this session, including the *Waqf Amendment Bill, currently under review by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). Discussions are also anticipated around the introduction of the *One Nation, One Election bill, a transformative proposal aimed at synchronizing elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently championed the concept, asserting that it will enhance democratic efficiency, optimize resource utilization, and streamline governance. “We are moving towards One Nation, One Election, which will strengthen democracy and propel India toward becoming a developed nation,” Modi said in a recent statement.

The proposal, however, has faced resistance from opposition leaders. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge dismissed the idea as impractical, underscoring the challenges of implementing such a sweeping reform.

The Winter Session is poised to be a pivotal period for legislative deliberations, with the government emphasizing reforms and the opposition questioning their feasibility and intent.
