Kiren Rijiju Criticizes Opposition’s Conduct During PM Narendra Modi’s Address on Manipur

Northeast Desk, 3rd July: Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju has expressed strong disapproval of the opposition’s behavior during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address in the Rajya Sabha concerning the situation in Manipur. Rijiju urged everyone to review Modi’s statements, particularly those made during the 2023 Independence Day speech, where the Prime Minister emphasized national solidarity with Manipur.

In his Rajya Sabha address on July 3, PM Modi assured that the government is actively working to restore peace in Manipur, noting a significant decrease in violence. He highlighted the arrest of over 500 individuals and the filing of more than 11,000 FIRs as indicators of progress.

Modi also emphasized the achievements of his administration in the Northeast over the past five years, claiming it has accomplished more than the Congress would have in two decades.

Rijiju’s comments follow heated exchanges in the Lok Sabha, where he criticized the Congress for their disruptive behavior during the Prime Minister’s speech. He accused the Congress of politicizing a sensitive issue and called for an apology to the people of Manipur. Rijiju also expressed concern about the impact of such behavior on the parliamentary process and the learning experience of newly elected MPs.

The situation in Manipur remains a critical issue, with ongoing political discourse and efforts to address the region’s challenges.
