Kokrajhar to Host Inaugural Budget Session of Assam Legislative Assembly Outside Guwahati
Kokrajhar: Assam’s Kokrajhar is set to make history as it hosts the inaugural sitting of the Budget session of the legislative assembly outside the state capital, Guwahati, for the first time. The special one-day session will take place on February 17, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighting the significance of the event in symbolizing peace and integration for the region.
Sarma stated that one of the key focuses of the sitting will be to strengthen the administration of Sixth Schedule areas. Additionally, the Governor’s speech, typically delivered on the first day of the Budget session, will be a major highlight of the proceedings.
“This marks a historic moment as it symbolizes the return of peace in the state and the integration of all communities. Kokrajhar, once a center of the Bodoland agitation, will now host this special session,” Sarma emphasized, expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their unwavering support.
Prime Minister Modi, on his official social media account, celebrated the occasion, saying, “The NDA Governments, both at the Centre and in Assam, have been working relentlessly to empower the Bodo community and fulfill their aspirations. This progress will continue with even greater vigor.” He also recalled his previous visit to Kokrajhar, where he had witnessed the vibrant Bodo culture firsthand.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also took to social media, wishing the people of Bodoland on this momentous occasion. “This is a significant step toward fulfilling PM Modi’s vision to accelerate the development of our Bodo sisters and brothers while nurturing their culture that proudly represents our civilizational ethos,” Shah stated.
Following the inaugural sitting in Kokrajhar, the remainder of the Budget session will be held at the permanent assembly building in Guwahati. The session is set to continue until March 25, with Finance Minister Ajanta Neog slated to present the annual budget on March 10.
