Korean Wave Heartthrob Park Bo Gum Sets Sights on Bollywood Dream

Entertainment: Seoul, South Korea: In news that is sure to send ripples of excitement through his legions of fans, South Korean superstar Park Bo Gum, celebrated for his unforgettable performances in dramas like Reply 1988 and Love in the Moonlight, has openly expressed a keen desire to visit India and explore opportunities in the vibrant Indian film industry.

During a recent media interaction, leading up to the release of his much-anticipated drama Good Boy, the 31-year-old actor extended his heartfelt gratitude to his Indian admirers for their unwavering support. “To my Indian friends, dhanyavaad (thank you). Is that right? Thank you for your support and love. I really want to go to India… I hope so. So thank you a lot. Dhanyavaad,” he shared, responding to a query from the Press Trust of India.

Good Boy marks Park Bo Gum’s eagerly awaited return to the screen, following the completion of his mandatory military service in 2022. This Prime Video original series follows a compelling storyline of elite athletes who transition into the police force through a specialized programme. Park takes on the role of Yoon Dong-ju, a gold medallist boxer, a character that demanded significant physical preparation.

“Good Boy was the first project I took on after finishing military service. I actually trained in real-life boxing with physical contact… and I had to grow my muscle percentage. We worked out together on set. I learned a lot from the team,” a dedicated Park explained about his rigorous training for the role.

He stars alongside the talented Kim So-hyun, who portrays Ji Han-na, an accomplished shooter. The stellar ensemble cast also boasts prominent South Korean actors such as Lee Sang-yi, Oh Jung-se, Heo Sung-tae, and Tae Won-seok, promising a power-packed viewing experience.

When asked to draw comparisons between his new role and his previous character Gwan-sik from When Life Gives You Tangerines, Park highlighted some intriguing parallels. “If I were to compare the two… they are always action-first and proactive. They both know how to truly love one person, and they have a very healthy mindset.”

In a statement that has already sparked a frenzy of speculation among Indian production houses, the actor affirmed his openness to participating in Indian ventures. “If there’s a chance, I’d love to be in a musical or any Indian film,” he revealed, leaving the door wide open for potential collaborations.

Post-military service, Park emphasised a renewed focus on selecting roles that are both meaningful and diverse. “After finishing my military service, I find that there are more stories that I want to tell and more roles that I want to take on. So beginning this year, I’m going to really do my best to tell the most number of stories I can.”

Indian fans can mark their calendars as Good Boy is set to begin streaming on Prime Video from May 31.
