Laborer Electrocuted by Illegal Electric Fence in Assam Forest

Guwahati, 19th September: A laborer was traveling through a forest on Monday evening near Kuklung at Bijni in the Chirang district of Assam, and little did he know that death was waiting for him on the way.

The laborer, Bhuwan Barman, was killed instantly when he came into contact with a live electric fence while traveling through the region on his way home.

According to sources, people typically install electric fences to keep elephant herds at bay without the forest department’s permission. The communities that encroach on the protected forest often employ this lethal strategy of high-voltage electric fences.

Due to Barman’s passing, it has come to light that humans have also been electrocuted, in addition to elephants, in the past. Since no one from the villages notified the police, many of these cases go undetected.
