Lack of Rail Gate Leads to Death of Truck Driver
Guwahati: A dumper driver was killed on Monday when his vehicle was struck by a train at a railroad crossing in the Golaghat district of Assam due to the lack of a rail gate.
According to reports, the southbound Avadh Assam Express struck the dumper truck at Tamuly hamlet in Borpathar while it was crossing open railway track carrying sand with the registration number AS03 BC 2565 and no rail gate.
The truck was en route to Jamuguri and the driver died on spot after the incident. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
It is believed that the dumper is from Dergaon.
The locals alleged that large sand syndicate is running in Tengani which is led by MLA Biswajit Phukan.
The syndicate did not stop despite several objections from locals, they added.
Locals are always at risk as a result of the area’s lack of a rail gate, which is to blame for countless accidents.
They have made numerous requests for the government to take notice of the urgent need for rail gates in the area.
