Laitkor Secure Maiden Victory, Rise from Relegation Zone in Thrilling Shillong Premier League Clash
Shillong: Laitkor clinched their first win of the Shillong Premier League 2025 season with a commanding 3-1 victory over Mylliem at the SSA Stadium, Polo Ground, on August 27. The win, powered by a brace from Frelyson Tariang, saw Laitkor climb out of the relegation zone and into fifth place on goal difference, joining three other teams on three points. Mylliem, meanwhile, slipped to eighth place.
The first half was a tense, end-to-end affair with both teams squandering opportunities. Laitkor’s Wadskhem Marbaniang rattled the post early on, while Mylliem’s Alem Khongwir and Closing Lyngshing also came close. The deadlock was broken only after the interval when Rikmenlang Nongrum showed great persistence on the left flank, rounding the goalkeeper before setting up Frelyson Tariang for a simple tap-in in the 52nd minute. Laitkor doubled their advantage in the 71st minute when Tariang’s clever flick and run opened up space for teammate Risuk Malngiang to calmly slot home. The game was put to bed just five minutes later when a swift counter-attack saw Fridison Wahlang selflessly square the ball for Tariang, who slotted in his second goal of the match. Tariang nearly completed a memorable hat-trick but was thwarted by Mylliem’s goalkeeper Rihoklang Khongjoh in the 80th minute. Mylliem’s lone goal came as a stunning consolation, with Wanbok Wahlang curling a magnificent free-kick from outside the box directly into the net five minutes from time.
Laitkor’s win puts them level with Mawlai, Sawmer, and Malki on three points, providing a much-needed boost to their campaign. Mylliem, now on a single point, are just above Rangdajied United on goal difference. The league action continues on Thursday as table-toppers Nangkiew Irat take on Sawmer.
