Lakhimpur Kheri Case: Prime accused Ashish Mishra surrenders
Guwahati: Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra who is the prime accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case surrendered before magistrate at the district jail on Sunday.
According to reports of ANI, Mishra surrendered a week after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail and ordered him to surrender within a week.
Setting against the Allahabad High Court’s ruling dated February 10, 2022, the Supreme Court remanded the case to the High Court, stating that the Allahabad HC’s order could not be upheld and had to be set aside, as well as the respondent’s or accused’s bail bonds being annulled.
The Supreme Court, on the other hand, underlined that it had not expressed an opinion on the facts or the merits of the case, and that all legal concerns were left to the High Court to consider and decide.

The prime accused, Ashish Mishra, is accused of running over farmers who were protesting the Centre’s three disputed farm legislation.
Ashish Mishra, the son of Ajay Mishra, India’s Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, was detained on October 8 and given bail in February 2022.
The family members of the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri event have petitioned the Supreme Court, appealing the Allahabad High Court’s decision to give Mishra bail.
The Supreme Court had already constituted a committee, led by former Punjab and Haryana high court judge Rakesh Kumar Jain, to oversee the investigation of the incident.
