Lakshman Prasad Acharya Sworn in as New Governor of Assam
Guwahati, 30th July: Lakshman Prasad Acharya was sworn in as the new Governor of Assam on Tuesday afternoon in Guwahati. The oath-taking ceremony took place at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, with Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi of the Gauhati High Court administering the oath.
Acharya’s appointment marks the end of Gulab Chand Kataria’s term as Assam’s governor, who has been reassigned to Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Acharya, 59, previously served as the Governor of Sikkim and will also assume additional responsibilities for Manipur.
The ceremony was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, various cabinet ministers, and other dignitaries. Acharya, a former RSS and BJP member and an ex-member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
