Landslide Hit Territorial Army Camp in Manipur’s Noney, Rescue Ops Underway

Guwahati: A massive landslide struck the company position of the 107 Territorial Army of the Indian Army deployed near Tupul railway station in the Noney district on Thursday, prompting the start of a rescue mission.

“13 people in total have been rescued. The injured people are receiving medical care at the Noney Army Medical facility. The gravely injured troops are currently being evacuated, ” ANI quoted officials as saying.

Taking to Twitter, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said he has called an emergency meeting to assess the situation of the landslide in Tupul today.

“The search and rescue operation is already underway. Let’s keep them in our prayers today. Ambulances along with doctors have also been dispatched to assist in the operation,” he tweeted.

The 107 Territorial Army of the Indian Army, which had been stationed close to Tupul Railway Station in the Noney district of Manipur to guard the newly constructed railway line from Jiribam to Imphal, was severely damaged by a major landslide on Wednesday night about midnight.

Columns of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles are currently conducting large-scale rescue efforts. The rescue operations have been supported by the engineer plant equipment that is on-site.

Fresh landslides and unfavourable weather are hampering rescue efforts, but a coordinated effort is under way to find the missing people. The Army helicopters are on standby waiting for the weather to clear.
