Largest Twitter Breach May Have Put User’s Data at Risk
Guwahati: Over 200 million Twitter users’ email addresses were exposed on an internet forum by hackers in one of the biggest data breaches in history, according to a security researcher.
The incident “will regrettably result in a lot of hacking, targeted phishing, and doxxing,” commented Alon Gal, co-founder of the Israeli cybersecurity monitoring group Hudson Rock, on LinkedIn. Gal referred to it as “one of the most serious data leaks I’ve seen” in a piece he wrote on Wednesday.
Twitter has not yet responded to the story that Gal originally shared on social media on December 24. Inquiries regarding the breach have also gone unanswered by the corporation since then. As of right now, it is unclear what steps Twitter has done to look into the situation, if any.
Screenshots of the hacker forum where the information first surfaced on Wednesday have been widely shared online, but Reuters has not been able to independently confirm whether the information was real or whether it originated from Twitter.
