Last Rites Of Nipon Goswami To Be Performed At Nabagraha Cemetry Today
Guwahati: The final rites for iconic veteran Assamese actor Nipon Goswami will be performed at Nabagraha Cemetery in Guwahati on Friday.
Nipon Goswami, an 80-year-old legend in the Assamese cinema industry passed away on Thursday at around 9.15 am. On October 24, he was admitted to the hospital and was receiving treatment under the supervision of a skilled medical staff.
But he went suddenly yesterday morning following a cardiac arrest. After he passed away, his mortal remains were brought to Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio, where they were held overnight so that fans, organisations, and movie industry figures may pay their condolences.
At around 9 am today, his body will reportedly be transported to Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra. His remains will then be transported to Rabindra Bhawan and Dighalipukhuri. He will be transported to Nabagraha Cemetery at around 11 am, where he will be laid to rest for the last time.
Tributes have flooded in from all around the state since word of Nipon Goswami’s death spread. Nipon Goswami appeared in several films, according to cabinet minister Ashok Singhal, who was speaking about him. He will live on forever, even when he is gone.
He declared that the Assamese film industry pioneer will receive official honours. “I’ve come to meet with the family members,” Singhal remarked. His hospital expenditure will be covered by the state government.”
Mourning his demise, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to write in Assamese, “I am pained to hear of Assamese film industry’s evergreen actor Nipon Goswami’s passing away. In my youth, while working for the film ‘Kokadeuta Nati Aru Hati’, I had the chance of meeting him and I was blessed at the opportunity.”
“He played thoughtful characters in many Assamese films and his contribution to the cultural world will never be forgotten by the people of Assam. I pray to God for the eternal peace of the late actor and extend my condolences to the bereaved family,” added the Assam CM.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also acknowledged the pioneering contribution of Nipon Goswami to the Assamese film industry as he condoled the demise of the veteran Assamese actor.
Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “Saddened by the passing away of Shri Nipon Goswami, who made a pioneering contribution to the Assamese film industry.”
“His diverse works will be remembered by several film lovers. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” he further wrote.
Born in Tezpur, the 80-year-old actor stepped into the world of acting as a child artist by playing a role in the 1957 Assamese feature film ‘Pioli Phukan’ that was directed by Phani Sarma.
Goswami had also acted in several Assamese films like Shiraj, Deutar Biya, Priya O Priya, Kokadeutar Ghar Jowai, Aparupa, Sandhyaraag, Bohagor Duporiya, Ghar Khankar etc.
