Lat Mandal caught red handed while taking bribe in Assam’s Bongaigaon
Guwahati, 12th March: The fight against corruption in Assam saw significant strides as the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption apprehended two individuals on bribery charges in separate incidents.
On March 12, Gendu Mohan Nath, a Lat Mandal stationed at the office of the Circle Officer, Baitamari Revenue Circle in Bongaigaon district, was caught red-handed accepting a bribe. Nath allegedly sought illicit payments for altering land records, with the transaction taking place within the office premises.
In another case, the anti-corruption cell targeted a police official in Cachar following a complaint lodged at the Directorate. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Noma Uddin Ahmed from Ghungoor Out Post in Cachar was accused of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 6,000 for the return of a stolen motorcycle. Despite reducing the bribe amount to Rs. 4,000, Ahmed was apprehended in a trap set up at Ghungoor Out Post, caught accepting the bribe in his residential quarters.
The successful operations led to the recovery of the illicit bribe money from both individuals, with independent witnesses present during the arrests. These actions underscore the commitment of authorities to combat corruption and uphold integrity in public service.
