Leaders Including PM Modi and Amit Shah Commemorate 22nd Anniversary of Parliament Attack, Pay Homage to Fallen Jawans

National Desk, 13th December: On the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament Attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several top political leaders and ministers gathered at the old Parliament building to pay their respects to the fallen Jawans. Among those honoring the Jawans were Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took the opportunity to interact with the family members of the Jawans who sacrificed their lives during the Parliament attack on December 13, 2001. Expressing his sentiments on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said, “Today, we remember and pay heartfelt tributes to the brave security personnel martyred in the Parliament attack in 2001. Their courage and sacrifice in the face of danger will forever be etched in our nation’s memory.”

On that fateful day in 2001, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Jagdish, Matbar, Kamlesh Kumari; Head Constables Nanak Chand, Rampal, Om Prakash, Bijender Singh, and Ghanshyam from Delhi Police; along with Deshraj, a gardener from CPWD, laid down their lives defending the Parliament against the terrorist attack.

The attackers, affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), two Pakistan-raised terrorist organizations, targeted the Parliament, resulting in the tragic deaths of five Delhi Police personnel, two Parliament Security Service personnel, one CRPF Constable, and a gardener. This incident escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, ultimately leading to the 2001-2002 India-Pakistan standoff. In response to the attack, security forces successfully neutralized all five terrorists who had infiltrated the Parliament in a car bearing Home Ministry and Parliament labels.
