Legal Action Taken: Case Filed Against Hospital Dean and Doctors Over Multiple Patient Deaths in Nanded, Maharashtra

National Desk, 5th October: A complaint has been filed against Shyam Wakode, the Dean of Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital in Nanded district, Maharashtra, following a series of deaths at the hospital within a 48-hour period.

The hospital’s superintendent and several doctors are also under investigation. Wakode has been specifically implicated in connection with the deaths of an infant and the child’s mother. Over the course of 48 hours, starting from September 30, the hospital reported 31 deaths, including infants, with an additional six deaths occurring in the subsequent 24 hours.

Relatives of the deceased have alleged negligence and a shortage of medicines, while the Maharashtra Medical Education Minister, Hasan Mushrif, has pledged to conduct an inquiry into the deaths and make improvements to the hospital facilities within 15 days. He has denied any medicine shortages and assured that those found negligent will face consequences.

The Congress party has accused the state government of ‘criminal negligence’ and raised questions about the timely procurement of essential medicines.
