Guwahati: A male leopard was beaten to death by a group of angry villagers after it injured almost three men in Golaghat district of Assam on Sunday.
This incident was reported from Khumtai village where they were on their way to fields, to provide drinking water to their cattle.
The injured during the attack have been identified as Bitopan Doley (15), Lalit Doley (45), and Malay Medak (20) of Dusutimukh village.
Following the attack, the trio sustained hand injuries on their back, neck, and hands and is currently undergoing treatment.
According to reports, the leopard was attacked with machete, axe and sticks, resulting in its death.
It needs to be mentioned that the leopard had been causing terror in the area since a long period of time.
Following the incident, the Dergaon forest department officials reached the spot and recovered the body.
The dead leopard has been for postmortem to the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) in Panbari.
