LeT Hybrid Terrorist Killed In Encounter
Guwahati: A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist has been killed during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
The encounter took place between security forces and ultras in Anantnag district.
Security personnel began a cordon and search operation in the Bijbehara area of Cheki Dudoo in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district in the early hours of Sunday.
Earlier, the police arrested an individual known as Sajad Ahmad, a resident of Shirpora Kulgam, after a terrorist died from his injuries in an attack on non-local labourers in Rakhmoman Bijbehara.
“He admitted after questioning that he had used a pistol that had been unlawfully obtained and had been retrieved to commit the aforementioned terror crime. Sajad also acknowledged knowing there were terrorists in the Bijbehara neighbourhood of Cheki Duddo “the police stated, adding that after receiving his input, the police and army jointly started a cordon and search operation (3RR).
The search party came under heavy fire from terrorists who were hiding as they approached the suspected hideout mentioned by the accused, the police said, and the accused, Sajad Ahmad Tantray, suffered critical gunshot wounds.
The police added, “The victim was immediately transferred to SDH Bijbehara where medics confirmed him brought dead.”
The police added that a search operation is underway in the region and that the cordon has been strengthened throughout with the support of reinforcements.
“The accused Sajad was earlier a terrorist associate of the proscribed terror outfit LeT and was involved in several criminal cases and was also detained under PSA from June 2019 to December 2019,” read an official statement.
Meanwhile, Srinagar Police along with Army (2RR) also arrested three hybrid terrorists along with a huge consignment of arms and ammunition including 3 AK rifles, 2 Pistols, 9 Magazines, 200 rounds and other incriminating materials from the outskirts of Srinagar.
Further investigations into the case are underway.
