Liangmai Naga Council Appeals for Key Road Project and Unified Administration

Northeast Desk, 22nd September: The Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) of Manipur has renewed its call for the state government to address two critical concerns impacting the Liangmai community. In a formal appeal to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the LNC urged swift action on both the construction of a key 23-kilometer road and the establishment of a unified administrative framework for the indigenous Liangmai people.

The first appeal focuses on the construction of a Leimakhong to Langka road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Describing the proposed road as a “vital lifeline,” the LNC stressed its importance in improving access to essential services such as healthcare and education, while significantly enhancing economic opportunities for the Liangmai people. “This road will empower our residents, enabling them to thrive and build a more resilient future,” an LNC representative remarked, urging the government to prioritize the project and ensure its timely completion.

The second appeal is centered around the LNC’s longstanding demand for bringing all Liangmai indigenous people under a unified administrative unit. The community believes such a move would address their political marginalization and provide a stronger voice in Manipur’s governance. According to the LNC, this step is essential for protecting their political rights and ensuring equitable development for their people.

“This will promote fair and inclusive growth for our land and community, ensuring we are free from discrimination and deprivation,” the LNC emphasized in their statement.

The appeals highlight the community’s determination to secure improved infrastructure and governance, calling on the Manipur government to take decisive action.
