Lightning Strikes in West Bengal, 14 Dead

Guwahati: As many as 14 people were killed due to lighting in three districts of West Bengal on Thursday.

According to a disaster management department official, four persons each were killed in East Burdwan district and two each in Murshidabad and North 24 Parganas due to lightning.

According to a disaster management department official, several districts of south Bengal including Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, Purba Bardhaman and Murshidabad were badly affected by the storm.

Moreover, three people each died in West Medinipur and Howrah rural areas not only in West Bengal but also in Assam many people have died due to storms and lightning.

“Gusty wind was reported at Alipore and the duration was less than one minute with the highest wind gust of 79 kmph. This is not a squall,” said an official at Regional Meteorological Centre.
