Limestone Mine Collapses In Chhattisgarh, 7 Killed

Guwahati: As many as seven people died and several others are reported to be trapped due to a portion of a limestone mine collapsed on them at their village in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh on Friday.

According to the police, six women were among the victims of the incident which took place in Maalgaon village under Nagarnar police station area, 12 kilometers away from Jagdalpur, the district headquarters..

A police official said, “The victims were digging soil in the mine when a part of it caved in, due to which they got trapped under the debris.”

After getting information about the incident the police officers hurried to the scene and started a rescue effort, he added.

The officer added that two more were being sent to a hospital and five people died immediately.

However, there were only seven persons digging the soil at the time of the incident but rescue effort are underway.
