Lock-out Announced in Doloo Tea Estate in Cachar

Guwahati: The Doloo Tea Estate in the Cachar district of Assam has issued an urgent total lock-out of the tea estate.

The closure of the tea garden was announced in an order passed by the Deputy Manager of the tea estate Supriya Sikdar on Tuesday.

According to the order, the tea garden would be shut down because many of its employees were ignoring the management’s daily deployment orders and working at their own sweet-mill, which caused utter lawlessness in the garden.

The order also noted that many employees arrive at work late. However, in accordance with the order, management never misses a deadline for paying statutory wages or distributing rations.

Additionally, according to the administration, all tea estate operations have been suspended immediately, with the exception of emergency services including the hospital, wards, security, water supply, and electricity.

Employees will not be entitled to any wages, rations, or other relevant benefits during the lockout period. Legal claim in respect to any financial loss due to such illegal acts of workers and the consequent lock-out may also be filed on the Garden Panchayat without any prejudice.

It may be mentioned that the Doloo Tea Estate’s 2500 bighas of land were removed by the Cachar district administration so that a Greenfield airport could be built there.

Meanwhile, taking to twitter, All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) member Sushmita Dev showing deep concern towards the workers of the tea estate wrote, “While we are all busy fighting floods the Dolu Tea Estate which is was in the eye of the storm for land acquisition for airport in Silchar declares a lock out. Worse situation for the workers of the tea estate in the midst of this crises. #LockoutDolu.”
