Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Voting underway amidst Tight security in Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency
Northeast Desk, 26th April: Voting for phase 2 of Lok Sabha elections in Manipur began at 7 am on April 26, 48 hours after an IED explosion rocked the state. The Outer Manipur seat witnesses a contest between NPF’s K Timothy Zimik, Congress’s Alfred K Arthur, and independent candidates Alyson Abonmei and S Kho John.
The 15 Assembly segments of Outer Manipur PC had already voted on April 19, alongside the 32 Assembly segments of Inner Manipur PC. Currently, polling is underway at 848 polling stations across 13 Assembly segments in eight districts of Outer Manipur PC, including Ukhrul, Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Tamenglong, Noney, Senapati, Jiribam, and Pherzawl, from 7 am to 4 pm.
Despite security concerns, senior citizens and specially-abled voters are turning up at polling booths with the assistance of volunteers to exercise their voting rights.
