Lok Sabha Elections: Banned phensedyl syrup seized from truck in Assam’s Bajali
Guwahati, 4th May: In view of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the Assam Police officials seized a huge consignment of banned Phensedyl cough syrup from Bajali today.
Acting on a tip-off about a possible smuggling bid of narcotic drugs, Bajali Excise Department and Bajali police in a joint operation intercepted a truck bearing registration number UP21CM5610 which was coming from Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad and was heading towards Guwahati.
The officials intercepted the truck near the Galia toll gate.
When police searched the truck in the presence of witnesses, over 80 cartons containing over 7,000 bottles of banned phensedyl syrup were recovered.
Police official informed that market value of the seized cough syrup is estimated at around Rs 80-90 lakh.
Moreover, one individual has also been arrested by Bajali police in connection with the incident.
The arrestee has been identified as Faim, a resident from Uttarakhand.
It needs to mention that the massive seizure underscores authorities’ vigilant efforts to curb illegal activities amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Notably, two phases of Lok Sabha elections are over, one more are yet to be held which is scheduled to take place on 7th May.
