Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi Submits Adjournment Motion Notice to Address the Manipur Situation
Northeast Desk, 18th December: Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi has submitted an Adjournment Motion notice addressing the “efforts to restore normalcy and safeguard the life of all citizens of Manipur.”
Ethnic violence has plagued Manipur since May 3, leading to numerous civilian casualties and the displacement of thousands. Manipur’s Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, disclosed on Sunday that around 6,000 Myanmar nationals have sought refuge in the state due to unrest in their home country, with additional arrivals anticipated.
Singh has stressed the state’s humanitarian obligation to provide food and shelter to these refugees. However, he also highlighted the imperative to prevent the illegal establishment of foreign settlements within Manipur. The state shares a 398-km long international border with Myanmar, spanning five districts: Churachandpur, Chandel, Kamjong, Tengnoupal, and Ukhrul.
