Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Inaugurates New Assam Legislative Assembly Building in Guwahati
Guwahati, 30th July: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla opened the new Assam Legislative Assembly building in Dispur in Guwahati on Sunday in a historic event.
The Assembly, which has been operating out of a converted tea warehouse since Dispur became the capital in 1972, now has a permanent home in the freshly built building. Distinguished dignitaries such as Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Union ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Rameshwar Teli, among others, celebrated the historic occasion.
The state of Assam witnesses the inauguration of this monumental assembly building after a span of half a century, marking a significant milestone in its administrative and political landscape.
The new complex spans over 10 acres and houses the main building, designed to accommodate the House, along with annexes for administrative purposes. With modern facilities and state-of-the-art technology, the paperless Assembly aims to foster efficiency and transparency in its operations.
This momentous occasion was marked by the collective enthusiasm of the people of Assam, as they witnessed the realization of a long-awaited dream for their legislative representation.
