Lovepreet Singh Bags Bronze Medal In Weightlifting in CWG
Guwahati: Lovepreet Singh won the bronze medal for India in the men’s 109 kg weightlifting event on Wednesday by lifting a total of 355 kg.
The 24-year-old lifted 157 lbs on his first try in snatch. He attempted again, adding a few kilogrammes to reach 161kg. He lifted a weight of 163 kg at his final try.
In the first clean and jerk category, Lovepreet successfully lifted 185 kg, then 189 kg. His most recent attempt saw him lift 192 kg.
Lovepreet reportedly works for the Indian Navy.
He also won a gold medal in the 2017 Junior Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships.
India has won nine medals in the weightlifting competition at the current Commonwealth Games (CWG), which are being hosted in Birmingham.
Sanket Sarger on the second of CWG bagged silver medal in weightlifting for the country. This was followed by Mirabai Chanu (Gold), Jeremy Lalrinnunga (Gold), Anchita Sheuli (Gold), Sanket Mahadev Sargar (Silver), Bindyarani Devi (Silver), Gururaja Poojary (Bronze), Harjinder Kaur (Bronze) and Vikas Thakur (Bronze).
India has won three gold, two silver, and four bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games thus far.
