Guwahati: Champion boxer Lovlina Borgohain defeated Ariane Nicholson of New Zealand in the light middleweight 70 kg division of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday.
Lovlina defeated Ariane Nicholson 5-0 in a unanimous decision to advance at the National Exhibition Centre.
The boxer from Assam will now compete against Welsh boxer Rosie Eccles on Wednesday.
Lovlina was the more aggressive of the two and managed to strike a few blows, earning her the first round while both fighters were initially a little hesitant as they got to know one another.
Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won India’s first gold medal while Bindyarani Devi took home the silver with a combined lift of 202 kg earlier on Saturday in the Women’s 55 kg final at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
