Lovlina Borgohain, Nikhat Zareen Seals CWG Berth
Guwahati: Indian boxers Lovlina Borgohain and Nikhat Zareen won their selection trials on Saturday ensuring their spots in the Indian team for the Commonwealth Games.
While Nikhat, a two-time Strandja Memorial gold medalist, blanked Haryana’s Minakshi 7-0 in a unanimous decision, Lovlina defeated Railways Pooja by the same score.
Other boxers who have qualified for the quadrennial event include Nitu (48kg) and Jasmine (60kg).
Nitu, a two-time previous youth world champion, defeated 2019 silver medalist Manju Rani 5-2 in a split decision.
In a fast-paced light-middleweight final, Jasmine, the bronze medalist at the Asian Youth Boxing Championships in 2021, outpunched Parveen Hooda, the bronze medalist at the World Championships in 2022.
Notably, the Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8.
