Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita Urges ULFA-I to come for talks
Guwahati: Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita on Sunday urged the elusive commander of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) to come to the table for talks.
He appealed while addressing the ‘Purvottar Swabhiman Utsav’ event organised by Indian Army in Guwahati.
“ULFA no longer has influence at the grassroots level in Assam,” said Lt. Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita.
“Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act has been lifted from several districts of the state except four as terrorism in Assam and North East has declined significantly in the last ten years,” he said.
“The young of Assam and the North East have advanced,” he continued.
It should be noted that the Indian Army organised the two-day Purvottar Swabhiman Utsav conference under the auspices of HQ Eastern Command with the subject “Celebrating Contribution of India’s North East Region (NER) in Nation Building.”
The conclave will take place as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations in Guwahati on November 20 and 21.
The conclave aims to celebrate Veer Naris, highlight NE culture, and emphasise the NER’s commitment to nation-building.
