Luxury Limousine Linked to Assam MLA Fined for Illegal Red Beacon, Political Display
Dhubri, Assam – In a significant move highlighting the enforcement of traffic regulations, a luxury Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine reportedly linked to the family of Assam MLA Najrul Hoque was on Thursday penalised by Dhubri police for the unauthorised use of a red beacon and the display of unapproved political signage.
The vehicle, bearing registration number AS-01EF-3333 and registered in the name of Sirajul Hoque, had become a familiar sight in and around Dhubri. It was frequently observed with boards in Hindi identifying it as belonging to the “Unit President 23-Dhubri LAC.” Furthermore, the car was seen regularly using a flashing red beacon, which is strictly reserved for emergency services or a select group of high-ranking government officials.
Following a formal notice issued earlier in the week, the Mercedes-Benz was brought to the Dhubri Sadar Police Station on Thursday. Upon its arrival, the illegal red beacon and the political display boards were promptly removed. According to sources within the police department, these items were reportedly used by the MLA’s son, Atique Shakil Hoque, allegedly to project political influence and secure preferential treatment.
Officials have underscored that this action sends a clear message that the misuse of political connections to circumvent traffic laws will not be countenanced. The luxury vehicle, valued at over Rs 40 lakh, now serves as a tangible representation of the police department’s commitment to upholding legal equality and ensuring that no one is above the law.
