Madhya Pradesh Elections: Voting begins for single phase in all 230 assembly seats underway; over 2,500 candidates in fray
National Desk, 17th November: Madhya Pradesh initiated its assembly elections, featuring Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan contesting from the Budhni assembly constituency commencing at 7 am today. The battleground involves heavyweight contestants from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Samajwadi Party (SP).
Polling stations opened at 7 am, continuing until 6 pm in most segments, except for specific areas like Baihar, Lanjhi, Paraswada, Bichhiya, Mandla, and Dindori, where voting concludes earlier due to Naxalite influence.
The fate of 2,533 candidates, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Kamal Nath, Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Patel, Faggan Singh Kulaste, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Kamal Nath, Jaivardhan Singh, and Ajay Singh, hangs in the balance. The electoral landscape witnesses a high-stakes contest among these political heavyweights.
