Madrasa Demolished After Teacher’s Arrest Over Jihadi Links in Jogighopa

Guwahati: Assam’s government destroyed another madrasa on Wednesday in Jogighopa after learning that a recently detained Jihadi was employed there.

The decision was made following the disclosure that Hafizur Rahman, who was detained by the police on August 26, had previously worked at the madrasa.

Today’s eviction drives took underway in Assam’s Bongaigaon district in Kabaitari in Jogighopa. During the drive, the Markazul Ma Arif Qariana Madrasa was destroyed.

According to reports, while questioning the fanatic who had been arrested, authorities discovered a wealth of explosive and alarming information regarding the madrasa.

Since 2014, Mufti Hafizur Rahman had been employed by the madrasa. Following the revelations, the district authorities commanded the madrasa’s demolition and the urgent evacuation of students.

It should be noted that the madrasa, which housed more than 200 kids from the lower Assam region and provided them with education, had already been evacuated by Bongaigaon police.

Prior to today’s demolition, all pupils were sent home last night after being evacuated from the building.

While this was going on, the neighbourhood residents apparently assisted the authorities by demolishing smaller buildings close to the two-story madrasa with the support of the madrasa managing committee.

A managing committee member claimed, “Rahman doing such actions from the madrasa was not anything we were aware of. If we had known, we would have taken precautions to stop it.”

“We discovered his Jihadi involvement after the cops arrested him. The committee chose to fire him right away, “Added he.

The state administration of Assam had on Monday ordered the demolition of a madrasa in the Barpeta district as part of its steadfast fight against Jihadi extremism in the state.

The Barpeta district of Assam’s Shaikh Hind Mahmudul Hasan Jamiul Huda madrasa was destroyed by the local government.

The madrasa was situated in Barpeta’s Joshihatapara neighbourhood. It was purportedly connected to groups that were outlawed, such as Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).

It should be mentioned that the establishment of the madrasa in Barpeta in 2019 was orchestrated by a Bangladeshi national named Saiful Islam, also known as Harun Rashid, Mohammad Suman, who had connections to ABT.
