Magistrate Level Inquiry Ordered In Geetanagar Open Fire Incident

Guwahati: The Geetanagar Police in Guwahati on Tuesday ordered a magistrate-level inquiry into the incident involving open shooting at one of the mobile phone thieves.

Reports say that on December 23, 2022, the Geetanagar Police opened fire at a mobile thief who had been apprehended for theft in Karbi Path.

An accused named Mukesh Saha was injured during the shooting incident and was taken right away for medical attention at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

According to reports, the authorities have instructed Revenue Circle Officer Dipankar Barman and Sub Divisional Commissioner Jai Shivani to look into the firing issue.

They have been given ten days to submit the report.

Notably, Mukesh Saha was shot in the leg by the police when he attempted to escape from their custody after being arrested.

Interacting with the media, Saha said, “Few days back one of my family members bought a new phone. We inserted one SIM that was registered with my name. Later, the police asked us to reach police station and questioned us regarding the phone. Then I don’t what happened and the police shot us. I didn’t try to escape, was just sitting at one place.”
